SYM-COIN

SYM-COIN is a theoretical model from which we deduce our research questions.

It stands for a “Synergy Model of Collectivistic Values and Independent Self.” Our model is sitting on a long-standing notion in social and cultural psychology that beliefs about the nature of the relationship between the person and the group form the basis of human social behavior. From this, our model specifies how collectivistic values and independence in self-views (i.e., collectivistic independence) jointly promote behaviors conducive to collective flourishing. These behaviors are studied under the rubric of three key topics, including harmony (和), loyalty (忠), and righteousness (義) within and between groups.
